We had never imagined that one day we would be able to make a trip to Canada !It was a dream come true-not only for us,but also for the dear siblings of my husband and their spouses. If the welcome in Toronto made us dumbfounded (it was a freezing - 10 degrees with snow all around and we could n't even open our mouths to talk ! ), Vancouver saw us covered head to toe and running!.(It was constantly drizzling)
The road trip to Toronto from Herndon (Virginia) was smooth and simply breathtaking. Our son drove us to Pittsburg, where my husband's brother planned to meet us.He would drive down from Toronto to pick us up from there. It was a mid-meeting point and we could also have the darshan at the Venkateswara temple.Gorging on the cup cakes and sandwiches made by my super baker daughter in law, we arrived after noon at the beautiful temple. The peace, the silence and the snow covered surroundings transported us to another world. By 2 o' clock my b.i.l arrived and we continued our onward drive to Toronto. Our visas were checked at the border and we proceeded to see the Niagara falls at night. It was the most spectacular sight even though dark, Colored lights were beaming over the falls, and it looked like a huge rainbow in the pitch dark night.A sight not to be missed!
The next few days were spent with brother's family and grand nieces and we preferred to stay indoors most of the time due to the extreme temperatures and heavy snowfall. However, we managed to see the tallest tower, the CN tower in spite of the wind-chill freezing our bones.
The warm reception at the Vancouver airport with two punjabi girls greeting us with folded hands surprised us.My husband's sister & brother in law received us and as we drove home we admired the picturesque place that is Vancouver. The rest of the family had assembled in the sister's house to welcome us and it was an emotional moment.
The days were cloudy with intermittent light, drizzly rain and chilly winds but whenever the Sun god made his appearance,we ventured out sight seeing. Winter is not a favorable time for tourists, nevertheless we managed to see quite a few places. Our favorite was the Capilano Suspension Bridge. The bridges and platforms were fastened to the gigantic trees by pulleys and ropes. We were simply exhilarated walking on the suspension bridges over the tall tree tops, with water flowing below. It was an exotic site from the top.The Stanley Park is a must- see place and we visited it twice. The Totem poles were a treat to the eyes and a favorite photospot. We also visited the Canada Place and the lunch picnic at Harrison hot springs was awesome .All evenings were spent in family gatherings and sharing nostalgic memories.Saturdays spent in the sanctity of the Hanuman Temple and sundays at the Sathya Sai centre, was an experience by itself.
Three weeks of leisure passed very soon.Vancouver is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places in the world! This was the best holiday ever, filled with the exuberant love of family.
